Lab vs Natural Diamonds
January 2026
Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and optically identical to natural diamonds. Both are pure crystallized carbon. The distinction lies in origin: one formed over billions of years underground, the other produced in weeks using advanced technology.
Lab-grown diamonds are created using two methods: High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). Both produce diamonds with the same physical, chemical, and optical properties as natural diamonds.
The primary difference is price. Lab-grown diamonds typically cost 30–40% less than natural diamonds of equivalent quality. This allows customers to purchase a larger or higher-quality stone within the same budget.
Natural diamonds are rare. Their formation required specific geological conditions over millions of years. This rarity contributes to their value and the emotional significance many people attach to them.
At DETARA, we offer both options transparently. We clearly specify whether each diamond is natural or lab-grown, allowing you to make an informed decision based on your values and preferences.
